St. Croix County prosecutors say a rural Somerset man kidnapped another man, beat him up, stole his car and destroyed his cellphones last week in Star Prairie.
A Minnesota man was sentenced Wednesday in the case of a fatal 2013 St. Croix River boat crash that left his friend dead. Patrick Puhalla, 49, of Bayport, was sentenced in Pierce County Circuit Court to six months in jail, seven years on probation and community service. He pleaded guilty May 26 to one count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and one count of causing injury by intoxicated boat operation.
A Florida man died Friday after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in St. Croix County. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, 83-year-old John M. Sundeen of Cudjoe Key, Fla., died from injuries sustained in a Thursday night crash near Woodville.
The man convicted of opening fire on a carload of people last year in Hudson was sentenced Friday in St. Croix County Circuit Court to 50 years in prison. The prison term for Minneapolis resident Ahmed Hirsi is to be followed by 35 years on extended supervision, according to presiding Judge James Peterson’s sentence. “You are, I would consider, a very dangerous man,” Peterson said at the hearing. Hirsi was convicted May 1 by a St. Croix County jury of 13 felonies, including three counts of first-degree attempted homicide after a weeklong trial.

St. Croix County’s first-ever drug court coordinator signed a separation agreement this year while she was being investigated for sexual harassment, according to documents released last month. Amber Perry, a seven-year veteran of the county, left her job April 10 while she was on paid administrative leave.
The man convicted by a St. Croix County jury of three counts of first degree attempted intentional homicide was sentenced Friday to 50 years in prison. Presiding Judge James Peterson issued the sentence, which also calls for 27-year-old Ahmed Hirsi to spend an additional 35 years on extended supervision. Hirsi was convicted in May of attempted homicide in a case stemming from a January 2014 shooting outside the Spirit Seller liquor store in Hudson.
Beaver Dam helped put an end to the River Falls American Legion Post 121 junior team’s season last year at the state tournament. River Falls made sure that didn’t happen two years in a row. Instead, Post 121 made history and claimed its first junior state championship on Sunday in a 3-0 win over Beaver Dam. The long road to glory meant keeping focus, said River Falls coach Mark Vrieze. “We may have had a rough start to the summer, but the boys played their best ball when it mattered,” he said.
